With melted cheese and bread one of the local culinary highlights, it is hardly surprising that the Swiss are not just crazy about Thai ladies but also about the deliciously spicy and exotic food they brought with them.

Hardly a town exists that does not boast a Thai eatery. But while they share the same culinary tradition, the selection could not be more diverse. In Zurich, all shades are on offer – from modern fusion-style Lili’s and Tiffins to the popular Ban Song Thai (www.bansongthai.ch) and the exclusive Sukhothai restaurants, there’s a placed for every atmosphere and every wallet.

Tom yam soup, tom kha gai, paeneng curry, satay are just some of the spicy treats that have livened up Swiss mouths and give us a taste of exotic culinary beauty. Slowly Swiss tongues have become used to a more spicy style of food. But if you are Thai, you should tell the restaurant when you order – as the standard dishes are still blanded down for Swiss tastes.

For those who wish to try their own hands at cooking, Asian shops are easy to find in many central locations, such as the Zurich HB station. But even more so, the main supermarkets (Migros and Coop) also offer quite a broad selection  of exotic ingredients to ensure a successful outcome to your own private culinary trip to tasty Thailand.
