Somtum – The most famous Thai food ever

1 1/2 tablespoons palm sugar
3/4 lime
2 cups green papaya, shredded
6 green beans
1clove garlic
1 1/2 tablespoons fish sauce
1 tablespoon dried shrimp
2 chili peppers
5 cherry tomatoes
2 tablespoons peanuts, toasted Optional

Somtum is the most well known Thai food in Thailand. You can find Somtum food at any block of the road because it really is everywhere. Turn out it’s the favorite of many foreigners in Thailand as well. And no doubt that it’s the favorite food of Thai people.

This is how we do it. Somtum doesn’t neet any heat to cook it at all. The only things you use for cook Somtum are pestle and Mortar.

First you can start the dish by smash a clove of garlic first. Then add green beans and halved cherry tomatoes, pound a few times just to bruise the beans and get the juice out of the tomatoes. Add chili peppers and crush them just enough to release the hotness, unless you like your salad really hot, if you love spicy, you just add up the chili as much as you want but if you don’t like spicy at all, I suggest you to put in at least 1 chili in order to keep somtum tasty and delicious. After that sdd the green papaya, dried shrimp, toasted peanuts, fish sauce, lime juice and palm sugar. Use the pestle to mix all up together.

    i LOVE somtum, but i am surprised you do not use plara (unfiltered fish sauce) and tamarind. i always thought those were some of the most essential ingredients.

    i love somtum so much, i eat it almost every week.
